You Decided to Stop Eating Meat? Here Are What Happens Your Body

If you are thinking to switch to a vegetarian diet, before you quit meat, you should know a few things.

The elimination of meat from your diet can have different effects on the body, both good and bad. Here’s how your body will react in that case.

You will lose weight

Does the elimination of meat from the diet affect us in any way? Neal Barnard, a professor of medicine at George Washington University, tried to find the answer to this question.

He analyzed the clinical research on the impact of diet and vegetarian diet on weight loss and came to the following conclusion: apart from preventing many diseases, a vegetarian diet will help you lose at least four kilograms of excess weight.

Reduces the risk of heart disease

Several studies, which involved more than 76,000 men and women, found that there is a 24 percent lower risk of heart disease in vegetarians.

Also, the elimination of meat from the diet significantly reduces the risks of blockage of the coronary arteries, compared to people who consume meat.

Heart diseases and blood vessels issues are one of the leading reasons for death worldwide. In addition, a vegetarian diet has anti-inflammatory effect.

You can lose your sense of taste

A survey conducted at the Japanese University in Tokushima found that zinc, which is generally supplied by consuming meat, is credited with taste.

Reducing the intake of zinc leads to loss of sense of taste. Beans, nuts, whole grains and dairy products contain zinc, but the phytate acid found in these foods prevents the absorption of zinc.

That is why vegetarians often recommend supplements to complement zinc in the body. The recommended daily intake for women is 8, and 12 milligrams of zinc for men.

The muscles will need more time to recover

Proteins are important for muscle. If you do not consume proteins, the muscles will need more time to recover after a physical exertion.

You may need to take supplements

All those who eat  a vegetarian diet may lack iron, calcium, and vitamin B12. In order to intake the sufficient amounts, they are recommended to use supplements.
