How to Make Garlic Syrup for Chest Infections

Garlic is well known as a powerful remedy and has been used in many herbal medicines. Garlic has a wide range and very effective medical properties: it has antibacterial and antiviral properties and is known to stimulate the immune system.

The strongly scented oil in garlic is largely extracted through the lungs, clearing chest infections and recurring colds. Raw garlic contains allicin which is known to be more powerful antibiotic than penicillin.

Raw unfiltered apple cider vinegar (ACV) has antiviral and antibacterial properties. It also provides beneficial enzymes, bacteria and trace minerals that make it so beneficial for you and promote healing in the body.

Raw honey has effective antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties that help to relieves cough and soothes sore throat. Optional ingredients to add:

Crushed fennel seeds – This is a natural expectorant that makes an excellent cure for cough, and is an old-fashioned remedy known to expel mucus builds up. It is a very good antidote for respiratory ailments that contains substances that help reduce phlegm and bronchial secretions and therefore help to relieve stubborn coughs, colds, respiratory chest congestion, asthma and bronchitis.

Sage and thyme – Another natural herbal expectorants that help to drain mucus from the lungs and are good to treat cough, congestion and bronchitis.

Fresh grated ginger – The active ingredient in ginger is called gingerol. It reduces pain and is known to have a powerful anti-inflammatory properties.

Cinnamon – Reduces pain and inflammation, has antioxidant effects and fights bacteria and viruses.


Cayenne pepper – Cayenne pepper contains capsaicin which acts as a pain reliever. It is also used to improve blood circulation and promotes healing in traditional Asian medicine as well as in the Indian medicine of Ayurveda. It reduces mucous membranes in the nose, sinuses and lungs.

Garlic Syrup Recipe for Chest Infections


This garlic recipe is used for coughs, hoarseness, clearing phlegm and other chest complains.

Ingredients:


  • 1 head of garlic
  • 1/2 cup of water
  • 1/4 cup of raw ACV
  • 1/2 cup of raw honey

Optional ingredients from the list above

Preparation:

Peel and mince an entire head of garlic (add some of the optional ingredients if you want) and cover with raw honey, water and ACV in a small bowl. Leave the mixture overnight or at least for several hours before using.

Strain the pulp and store in a cool place (honey and vinegar are natural preservatives so you can keep it in a cool dry place in an airtight container and it will last for a very long time). Take a teaspoon of the mixture every couple of hours until symptoms are relieved.
